On June 24th, 5,000 Chicagoans will volunteer side by side at the Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon, the city's largest day of service. Why volunteer? Becuase when we meet our neighbors, work side by side, and engage across our differences, we see that more unites us than divides us. We're inspired to see that we can help tackle the pressing challenges that face our city, because while we're many communities, we're also one Chicago.

Ready to roll? Here’s everything you need to know.

Rundown of the day

7:30 A.M. - 8:30 A.M. Check in at Daley Plaza, get your volunteer site assignment and fuel up with some coffee and a continental breakfast
8:30 A.M. Assignment in hand, board the bus for your project site. Get to work!
2:30 P.M. - 3:30 P.M. Wrap up your project and head back to Daley Plaza on the bus.
3:30 P.M. - 5:30 P.M. Worked hard? Time to play hard. We'll celebrate in the plaza with a party featuring food, drink and live music.

So, are you in?

A $10 fee covers everything you need for the day. We'll organize all the details, and hook you up with supplies, light breakfast, lunch, plus a party with food and beer (for those of us of drinking age) afterward. You just show up and make a big impact. FYI: Lots of companies sponsor their employees' participation, so if yours is one of them, you'll get a discount code for free registration. If you think your company might be interested, send us an email.

We encourage our world-changing volunteers to become ambassadors for Chicago Cares through fundraising. The money we raise for Serve-a-thon helps cover the cost of putting on the big day; we supply everything from paint brushes to flowers to turkey sandwiches to make it easy for you to volunteer, and look good doing it. It also empowers us to offer thousands of meaningful volunteer projects, changing the city for good.

Getting there is easy

Morning check-in and the after-party will take place in the heart of Chicago's Loop at Daley Plaza, 50 West Washington Street. You can’t miss it.

We recommend taking public transit there. Visit the RTA website or call its hotline (836-7000 from any local area code) with questions. If you prefer to arrive by Prius or Batmobile, you'll have to pay for your own parking; there are self-pay garages nearby. We advise you to leave extra time when planning your morning arrival.

The FYIs

You’ll be fed a hearty lunch. Registration closes June 16, or when we reach capacity, whichever comes first. Registration is not refundable, so if you can't make it, we'll consider your $10 a donation.

Chicago Cares provides bus transportation from Daley Plaza to project sites and back, which all volunteers must take advantage of due to safety and logistical considerations. We appreciate your cooperation, and we think you'll enjoy the ride!
